Gemeente Amsterdam, Stadsarchief
Identity, Visual Communication and Signage System;
In 2005 Amsterdam's City Archives moved to a monumental 1920s building designed by architect Karel de Bazel. A new visual identity and signage system was therefore needed. This identity had to fit in with the official style of Amsterdam (www.stijlweb.nl), but it also had to make the institution's communication stand out. It was decided to confine the City Archives' official logo to the three crosses of Amsterdam, while branding the communication with a pattern based on the building's façade. The pattern in silver and magenta serves as a graphic intervention that makes the City Archives' communication instantly recognizable.
